Invited - FDP on Data Analytics for IoT Applications at R V College,Blore

Many thanks to the organizers at the Department of ISE, MCA & CSE at RVCE, Bangalore for inviting me and my student Mr. Abhijit Naik, 6th sem, B Div for conducting a hands-on session on Arduino Basics and working with LM35 and LDR sensors and using ESP8266 Wifi module with Arduino and sending sensor values to ThingSpeak / IBM for Data Analytics using Watson APIs as a part of 6 days FDP on Data Analytics for IoT Applications from 30th Jan to 4th Feb, 2017.

The session began with a discussion on how to develop, debug and deploy Java, PHP, Python applications on Cloud mainly - Google App Engine and IBM BlueMix. Later participants were demonstrated with few sample cloud applications from http://mayur-patil.appspot.com. Then entire concept of Data Analytics was discussed using block diagram consisting of 1) Arduino with sensors block 2) Networking block (GSM, Wifi, Ethernet etc) 3) Data being stored in IBM BlueMix using PHP and MySQL and lastly 4) IBM Watson APIs for IoT Data Analytics block was discussed.

In the second session, participants worked hands-on with Arduino UNO and sensors mainly - LM35 & LDR. Later ESP8266 module was introduced and participants learnt to configure ESP8266 Wifi module to connect to their mobile phone hotspot and were able to send sensor values to ThingSpeak cloud.

The session ended with demonstration of steps involved in sensing values to IBM BlueMix using PHP and MySQL, then to carry out Data Analytics using IBM Watson APIs.
